Oh My Sensitive Skin

Posted on October 25, 2010November 12, 2010 By sweet surrender 10 Comments on Oh My Sensitive Skin

I have no idea why. Since the past two weeks, my skin started to get very easily irritated. Even by just splashing it with water was enough to make red patches appeared and it would itch. Luckily it would go away in less than half hour. Still it’s bad… I’ve never experience such problem before. It’s my first time. Because of this, I had cut down on many products and used the basics in my daily skincare routine, cleansed, toned, moisturised, and protect.

Today, I went for my facial, the beautician asked me what’s wrong with my skin, the condition was really really bad. Last time, apart from dry skin and blackheads, now it got worst. She found out that my skin was even drier than it used to be which caused all these sensitivities and weaken the skin even more. LOTS of Blackheads too! Extremely long and painful extractions.

My question now is how to keep my face hydrated? I drink plenty of water daily, I eat normally, no yo-yo dieting. I don’t drink or smoke. Well… Not enough sleep and stress might part of the causes. The crazy weather these days might be the problem too. I did some research but all saying the same things to stay hydrated which I’m doing all the time. So? What else?

Can’t afford expensive products. I’ve been trying to hydrate my skin by investing in many hydrating range (those that can be bought from Watsons or Guardian) but nothing works so far πŸ™ Need stronger ones I guess but that might mean I have to go for the high end products -.-”

Any tips or recommendations?

    Hey Irene,

You can try Eucerin Hydro-Balance face cream. Apparently it is like giving water to your face. Plus, it’s suitable for those with sensitive skin. It is RM52.90 per jar and it can last you for two months, depending on usage. It’s available at the Spring, at the pharmacy opposite Sushi King. All the best to you!

I have sensitive skin as well… and during the last trimester and after birth my hormones yo-yoed and my skin became from extra oily to extra dry! Didn’t help matters that I was too exhausted to even wash my face. Couple that with dirty hair and unable to scratch an itch on my face when you have a handful of baby, my skin broke out REALLY BAD. Like, all over face bad. And it didn’t go away either. My best tip to you is keep it very simple. I wash my face day and night, and after that apply generously with Sukin Moisturizer (you can find it at that organic shop at The Spring) – it’s only around RM30 something. After that I apply Vaseline on dry patches. Hopefully that’ll help. πŸ™‚

Just re-read the commenter above and saw that the shop she was referring to is the same as mine. It’s a pharmacy, but sells a lot of organic goodies as well. Good la… can kill two birds with one stone and go shop around. πŸ˜‰

Ann, oh ya… Could be the hormone too.

So far, I’ve tried whatever hydration products I have in hand now to boost hydration as really cannot splurge on any new products now by being more hardworking in topping up the moisturizer and spray face mist several times a day. It seems to improve a lot! My pores seems smaller, less oily, and smoother to touch. Fine lines are less too. Whenever I feel an itch or see fine lines appears when I grin, I quickly moisturize(Avene Spray then Clinique Dramatically Difference) and it works. Really need a lot of time and attention.

Now, my skincare routine is wash, tone(Avene Toner and/or Hada Labo), spray face mist, Garnier Aqua Defense and Clinique Dramatically Difference, and Loreal UV Protector for day time. Seems a lot of products, indeed a lot hehehe…

Will keep an eye on the Sukin Moisturizer, price is pretty reasonable.

Would you say that Avene spray mist is good? Is it for dry skin, combo or oily skin specifically or it’s ok for all skin types? If it’s good I might get it. πŸ˜€ I get dry patches too and now I’m using Vaseline on them but it tends to get shiny which is yuck. Btw, sorry ya but the price for Sukin is actually RM40+. My mistake… I just asked Jee (he helped me buy last time) and he confirmed it’s RM40+. It’s an organic moisturizer, really gentle. You’ll like the ingredients:

Ann, Avène Thermal Spring Water, the spray is for all skin type, great for after shaving, just want to refresh your skin, to sooth the sensitive skin and etc. (http://www.aveneusa.com/thermal-spring-water/). I sooth it first before adding moisture with moisturizer, make sure the moisturizer is for hydration. My sister use it as toner when her skin is sensitive.

Oh… RM40+ still not so bad for that quantity hehehe… Since it’s Australian product, then I know what to get when I’m there hehehe…

By the way, I watched that Taiwanese beauty show, they said it’s not recommended to use Vaseline(the petroleum jelly) for dry patches or even dry lips because it has no water, can clog pores, it only shields instead of provide water. So they said, best to use something meant for hydration. So, you layer the patches with the moisturizer will do. Apply from time to time when it’s necessary.

    Hi Sweet Surrender,
Could I know where to buy Avène Thermal Spring Water?

BB, you can get it in major pharmacy such as Watsons or Guardian in Malaysia or Singapore. I you’re from other country, then I’m sure you can also get them at your major pharmacy in your country.
