Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System Review

Posted on June 2, 2009June 3, 2009 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System Review

Remember I blogged about my first facial? The photo here shows you the trial pack, 15ml each. Aren’t these bottles cute? ;p

Now I’m going to review it after using it for 2 months. I started on 1st April 2009 and still using it now. It does solve my dry spots and fine wrinkles caused by dryness but not the oiliness of my face. The first two weeks of usage, I suffered some breakouts, small ones. I did some research on the net and it mentioned that it is due to the skin expelling those impurities. After two weeks, the breakouts got lesser and no more breakouts except during almost the time of the month which this is normal for me.

I’m using it twice daily, day and night.

This is my first time using such expensive products. Consider expensive for me.

Step 1: liquid facial soap
Not drying and it really opened up the pores for Step 2. When I used it for first few times, I got some reddish marks that would subside after about an hour. My skin is sensitive. Still I’m using it but after few times, they only appeared once in a while especially when it’s almost the time of the month. Other days are fine unlike other facial cleansers that I tried before.

Sometimes I would be using the Bioglo ClearPore Deep Cleansing Mask before Step 2. I remember the first time I used the mask, it took a lot of things out. Then 3 days later, I used again, nothing much came out. I used the mask 2 times a week or sometimes once a week. There’s nothing much came out since then with other facial cleanser.

With Clinique liquid facial soap, Step 1 really opens up the pores a lot! Most of the time I would surely get something out.

We can put it this way, either the facial soap really opens up the pores to get those things out or my skin isn’t really cleansed using this. That is why every time using the mask, there were sure to have something that came out. *shrug*

Well… According to Clinique, Step 1 is to prep your skin for exfoliation in Step 2. So… It’s more like opening up your pores for Step 2? Right?

I’m still using the trial bottle liquid facial soap. I’m not sure how long will it last, as I can’t see the content.

Step 2: clarifying lotion
The smell was horrible! I had to hold my breath every time I applied to my face. However, after I’m done with the trial bottle, the new bottle that I bought didn’t have such strong smell hmmm… Is it me getting use to the smell? I’m not sure. It gives me tingling sensation on my face, felt weird in the beginning but later got used to it and enjoying the feeling.

The trial bottle of clarifying lotion finished after 1 month of usage, I had stocked it up and using it now.

However, I think I want to switch to Clarifying Moisture Lotion after this as it is alcohol free. I think it will be a better option for my oiliness problem since the current one has quite a lot of alcohol judging from the smell and the consultant said so too. Even with alcohol, my skin oiliness level is still the same as it was before, no decrement nor increment.

We all know that, too much alcohol is not suitable for very oily skin as it strips off more moisture and cause your face to produce more oil to retain the moisture. She did mention to me about the non-alcohol based one but too late, I had already stocked up. Next time… Hmm… 6 months later maybe…

Step 3: dramatically different moisturizing lotion
I don’t like the stickiness and “shine” after using it. Sometimes I blotted it off. I will switch to gel after I’m done with this trial bottle. In fact I felt in love with dramatically different moisturizing gel few years back after trying out the sample in the magazine but never dare to invest in it.

It does moisturize my skin. I don’t get dry spots anymore.

From my estimation, it might take me 4-5 months to finish the 15ml dramatically different moisturizing lotion. I still have half bottle now.

That’s all from me on Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System. Do you have experiences to share?

Hi Irene. I tried Clinique’s products before many many years ago when I was in college (was given trial-sized samples) and I had a major breakout. My face turned oilier after I applied the moisturiser. I didn’t like the soap cleanser either because I thought it was unhygienic.

But my coursemate who used Clinique didn’t have the same problem as I did. She even told me that Clinique helped with her blemishes and breakouts.

Later, a friend who worked in the beauty and cosmetic line told me that the Clinique brand is usually for people with some skin problems. I guess that explains why.

Anyhow, just sharing my experience. I’m glad the products worked out fine for you though.

Lil’ Ms Pinky, yea… some people not suitable. As for me, it’s not that great but at least manage to clear off some skin problems. As for the soap bar, I think so too that’s why I went for the liquid one.

hi irene.i have used clinique product since early 2009. this is my first facial product. using this product for the first 6 month make my face look better. but after that, i have suffered from a lot of black heads and pimples. my style is like this: early morning i will apply the soap and then just apply facial powder (not clinique product) on my face. i just use the clarifying lotion and moisturizer when going to bed everyday. is there any problem in my style make me to get a lot of black heads? thank you.

manu fan, you should always use the lotion and moisturizer after washing your face. You didn’t create a protection layer for your skin and you apply powder directly will surely cause blockage or introduce “grim” to your pores because your pores are widely open, you didn’t close them. In fact, you should always have your skin care product no matter what brand you are using as base before applying any cosmetic.

Lotion/toner is meant to clear off whatever left from your cleansing because by just washing it off with water will not be fully cleansed. The lotion/toner also helps close your pores. Then you have to moisturize it because you are stripping away some moisture when you cleansed and toned.

I only use Clinique cleanser(not yet finish, will change to other brand when I’m done with it) only but not the whole range anymore because I’m suffering breakouts from them, it never seem to ceased. It’s too high for my budget too.
