Penang Day 4 – Part 3: War Museum

Posted on November 9, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 10 Comments on Penang Day 4 – Part 3: War Museum

We went to War Museum after the aquarium. It’s up there on the mountain. This is a really great place to go. It’s another history refresher course to me ;p The entrance for an adult is RM15/person, foreigner is RM30/person. You must have your IC to proof that you are a Malaysian. Children is RM7.50 for Malaysian and foreigner will be RM15.

By the way, you can play paintball here also. You can even stay at the barrack for one night! SCARY!!

This is the first tunnel we went in. It’s so dark, pitch black, you must bring your own torchlight. The narrow tunnel wasn’t straight, there’s a bit of cornering here and there and you have to climb out. If you are afraid of height, don’t go into this tunnel. You have to climb quite high up.

Mind you, this is the real place where the war took place. The British was expecting the Japanese to come and attack via the sea but who knows, they came via land with bicycles. This place is meant to attack the Japanese at the sea.

You get to see many artifacts there and various stories.

The place was kinda spooky. Imagine how many people had been tortured and killed there. They also open this place at night, scary wei! It’s already opened for visitors in 1968.

The dreaded Japanese occupation flag and some artifacts.

The kitchen and the bedroom.

The toilet and one of their offices.

There are so many buildings there with various rooms for different purposes. I have no idea what are those things hanging there for.

Potrait of those that sacrifice for the country.

Another office.

The escape tunnel(with red light), looked very spooky -.-” and those books are real books!

There’s another tunnel here which was bigger and shorter with bats! Luckily no bats when we were in there. It’s very dark.

In fact, there’s a 100ft tunnel somewhere in the museum but you have to pay extra to go in and only open for group of at least 20 people.

These two places were the spookiest! See the “ghost”? The place with the ghost is where women and girls got raped and killed. It’s really SCARY! Imagine how many innocent female beings were killed that time?

There’re also many photos in this museum showing the suffering and some disturbing photos of the war victims. Good thing they weren’t very clear, they’re in black and white and quite faded so it’s not so bad.

War is bad! NO WAR!

I strongly recommend this place. It’s not only a historical place but it’s interactive. Sadly, this place isn’t funded by the government, it’s maintained by people with the passion of keeping all these things. This was what our friends told us.

Next, it will another food post.

Very interesting and nice place to visit…Just like the Fort Margherita that we have here in Kuching! But I’m sure this place is much much more better, right?

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
