The whole mountain were smoking during Qing Ming (Old Souls Day for the Chinese community). Why? Everyone is burning something for their ancestors. This is an annual event where families will go to the tomb of their deceased family members to pay respect and pray for health and prosperity. It’s believed that the hell’s money, paper houses, paper shoes, paper clothes, you name it, even paper credit cards will allow their deceased family members to live comfortably in the other side of the world.
Just something to ponder… Why do it when they are dead when you couldn’t do it when they are alive? What’s the point? At least all these paper products are cheaper than what you can get in real but that’s just so pointless.
Anyway, this is only applicable to the non-Christians Chinese community though, for the Christians, flowers will be placed on the tombs and prayer sessions will be conducted to commemorate them, they don’t do such thing as burning this and that because they believe that God will provide whatever they need in the other world, there’s no need to worry.
